Pre-Game Show

03:40 – In between games I’ll be doing my review of the OSL Finals in Seoul, Korea.  Flash “The Legend Killer” v Movie “The Poor Bastard Going Against Flash”. Korea dominates StarCraft and this is the most prestigious StarCraft tournament in the world. Flash, the man expected to win, to be validated for everything he has done until now. Movie, the underdog!

03:42 – Introductions are done, cute Korean pop-stars off the stage, talking about their families done. Preparing for the first set. This is a best of five.

03:44 – Cute boothgirls! I’ll be Kerrigan, they can be… shit there’s no other women… and I had the whole “Queen of Blades” idea too…

03:46 – Fuck it, I’d like to infest her command center. Hit her with my sunken colony. (Lesbian euphemism!)  Um… um…

03:48 – Devour her zergling.

03:50 – Defile her mound.

03:50 – Enough killing time, the game’s about to start! Cue ‘E for Extinction’!

Set One: Neo Heartbreak Ridge [2]

03:51 – Alright, game’s about to start. Actually I could do this as the game goes. Also I don’t think I’m going to top “Defile her mound”.

03:51 – Neo Heartbreak Ridge, Flash on Left, Movie on Right.

03:52 – Updates to be slow, I do want to watch this. MOVIE’S PROBE OUT!

03:53 – Movie gas steals, Flash unconcerned.

03:55 – Flash scouts the cheese!!

03:57 – Movie playing really smart. Two expansions, putting early pressure on Flash.

03:59 – Cute Korean woman in audience, looked vaguely Domme like.

04:00 – Another Nexus for Movie. Will he over expand?

04:01 – Movie techs to Arbiters, Flash going mass siege.

04:02 – Flash puts up a long siege line, Movie getting his economy and macro up.

04:02 – “Movie thinks he’s a zerg” 5th base. Flash puts up a wall of supply depos… in the middle of the map!!

04:04 – Movie’s arbiter is up.

04:04 – Flash puts up another supply depot wall. Engagement, Movie pushing in, breaking through the wall! Stasis in the back, but is pushed back. Too many siege tanks.

04:06 – Movie expanding aggressively, I think that’s at least 5 bases, maybe 6. No mines in Flash’s base, double recall inc?

04:06 – Flash taking the bottom right base, Movie isn’t going to move in, hallucinated arbiters moving in!

04:07 – Movie’s recall not effective, going for a second one. Second one fails.

04:09 – Flash nearly max supply, nearly time to push out.

04:11 – Wasted recall = diminished supply. At 185, Flash has started to reach across the map and is taking out Movie’s Nexuses.

04:12 – ‘Spidermine her base’ sounds like passing an STD.

04:13 – Flash has turned the tide, he’s up one base and has a much strong economy.

04:15 – Flash has taken the center, the double gas and mineral lines and defended it well.

04:17 – Movie attacks on three fronts against the center. Flash’s defenses hold!!

04:18 – Flash picking off Movie’s expansions. Virtually no area of the map is under fog of war.

04:20 – Flash holds the center, Movie nearly mined out.

04:21 – Movie GG

For the first ten minutes of that it looked like Movie was going to turn the tables and early, taking game one. However, two failed recalls and too little harassment couldn’t save expanding like a zerg. Flash managed to defend, build up his supply and push out. 3/3 Siege-Tanks held back everything Movie tried. Then it was a simple matter of moving out. Exciting opener, predictable ending. Moving on.

Set Two: El Nino (Too lazy to do alt-code) [3]

04:33 – I’ve heard the chorus to ‘E for Extinction’ so many fucking times.

04:34 – Flash in the Four, Movie on the Twelve

04:34 – I want the booth girl’s dress.

04:35 – For someone like me, if I could take the dress off a booth girl I basically kill two birds with one stone.

04:37 – Flash expanding, looks like 14CC

04:38 – Standard opening by Movie.

04:39 – Movie’s Templar Archives and a Robotics Support Bay going up. On one base. Ferrying troops into Flash’s base!

04:40 – Movie moving a reaver via shuttle into Flash’s base. Flash getting defenses up.

04:41 – Hero scarab! 4 SCV’s simultaneously! Movie taking over Flash’s base.

04:42 – Movie unharassed, moved to two bases, remembered he’s a Protoss.

04:42 – Flash moving out with tanks, no siege yet.

04:43 – Movie looses his entire army, Flash pushing into Movie’s natural.

04:44 – Movie survives the push, both settling into macro.

04:45 – Reaver takes out 3 vultures in one shot, well microed.

04:45 – Movie puts down his reaver behind the natural’s mineral line, gets destroyed by siege tank ending its rein of terror.

04:47 – Flash macroing up, harassing with a successful single vulture. Engagement, Movie looses and forced back.

04:49 – Flash moving up, picks off a templar, Flash pushes up the map.

04:50 – Templar taken out. Flash targeted the templars with his tanks.

04:50 – Movie GG.

A very abrupt ending… Movie wasn’t cornered, and it seemed odd for him to end it so quickly. Either way, an exciting match. Movie dominates in the early minutes, but through smart micro and defense, Flash manages to turn the tides once more. Very similar to the first set. Flash is now one away from the title. GG.

04:57 – More people are watching this single stream than went to my high school. And this is one of many. Forget about the millions in Korea, but it’s only about 19:00 over there so it’s fractionally less nerdy.

04:59 – More commercials, less funny than Japanese ones. Interviewing Jaedong, who could spawn in my pool any day.

05:00 – Killing time. The disadvantage with this sport is that there’s no time limits (unless there’s a 1h30m stalemate where both players basically give up and the refs have to step in). A game can go on for an hour and a half, but the average is 15 minutes. A game can be as short as four minutes even. Which makes filling a huge event difficult. So far we’ve had 47 minutes of game, so that’s not bad. We could have five minutes of game left, we could have three more sets of forty, fifty minutes. So they’re filling up time with commercials and interviews. Also did I mention Jaedong could spawn more overlords with me? Yes? Alright, good.

05:10:  <singing> “Break down, you really want it? Wanna make a scene? Show me what you mean. Let’s get it started. Let me see whatcha got. Can you take it up a notch? Don’t think you got it. Can’t handle the pressure? Get off, stop talkin’ about it. Gotta make this count, lets go!

Set Three: Eye of the Storm [4]

05:12 – Flash in the Eleven, Movie in the One.

05:13 – Both scouting in the wrong direction initially and most likely will scout the right location last.

05:16 – No cheese, both taking their natural.

05:17 – Standard openings by both, Flash putting his turrets around his buildings to guard against DT’s.

05:18 – Movie going 2-base Arbiters.

05:19 – Flash pushes out with mech army. (As opposed to the wildly popular MM v Protoss builds…)

05:21 – Sign reads “I can’t believe you killed Movie so easily”. Past Tense. Would be cocky if it weren’t so probable and virtually inevitable.

05:22 – Flash mines the center of the map.

05:24 – Good recall, but vultures clear up the recall.

05:25 – Flash on 3 bases, Movie on 4-5.

05:26 – Minor engagements, a line of defense right down the center.

05:27 – Movie moving up, taking out a lot of Flash’s units, two arbiters up, cleaning up Flash’s tanks.

05:28 – Carrier tech up!

05:29 – Shield upgrades on the carriers, two are out. Storm over Flash’s tanks, Movie falling back from an engagement.

05:30 – Flash not producing goliaths, four starports pumping carriers.

05:31 – Flash has not seen the carriers… until now.

05:32 – Carriers unconcerned with goliath weak force.

05:33 – Movie takes out one of Flash’s bases.

05:34 – Flash appears concerned.

05:34 – Flash GG

Movie made a great tech switch to en-mass carriers, Flash didn’t scout it. By the time Flash realized the mistake, he was too unprepared for it. Movie proves many of the naysayers wrong, he takes a game off Flash. Two more to go!

05:37 – There’s no way I’m attending my Monday AM class if I’m going to be asleep until like 16:00 from watching this…

05:42 – What are those booth girls for? They seem to just stand there most times. Drinks? Technical support? I mean, they’re in really cute dresses and it gives me an excuse to twist StarCraft terms into dirty things, but there… actually no, there really doesn’t need to be more than that. Alright, moving on.

Set Four: Fighting Spirit [4]

05:44 – ‘E for Extinction’, how original. (I don’t want to admit that this song rocks)

05:45 – Movie in the eleven, Flash in the one.

05:47 – Movie fast expands. Flash’s scout goes the wrong way.

05:48 – Movie fans log into stream, Flash denies probe scout and moves his SCV up to where Movie is to scout.

05:49 – Flash sending marines to Movie, SCV putting down a bunker at Movie’s natural! Proves coming off the line to counter, Flash cancels the bunker. Clusterfuck of SCV v Probes.

05:50 – Another bunker goes up, marines get into the bunker! Attacking natural.

05:51 – Nexus down.

05:51 – Flash contains Movie at his main’s front door.

05:52 – Movie looking depressed.

05:53 – Harass her mineral line… no? It’s late, fuck off. You want comedy, watch Len- Conan. Conan!

05:54 – Movie at a disadvantage, engagement at the center, Flash pushing Movie back.

05:54 – Flash contains Movie at his natural.

05:55 – I feel a GG coming on.

05:56 – Flash pressuring, taking out the natural again.

05:56 – Flash is in Movie’s main.

05:56 – MOVIE GG, FLASH WINS THE EVER OSL!!

D’awww, Flash is crying! Congratulations to the man who dominated this tournament, he deserves it. Congratulations, Flash! Not the best game, but well fought, well earned, Flash showing why he deserves to win it all! Movie, first OSL, an excellent showing.  D’awww, Flash is hugging his mom! *wipes away tear*
